West Virginia was one of the first states to act after the Supreme Court in the US cleared the way for states to make decisions on online sports betting. Legalization occurred in March 2018, and the West Virginia Lottery Commission was given the task of regulating sports betting in the state.

The first online sportsbook to begin taking bets in West Virginia was BetLucky. This provider had an app available as early as December 2018, but the company is no longer offering online sports betting in the state. In its place there are multiple online sportbooks which include FanDuel, DraftKings, and BetMGM. Sports betting is also permitted at some retail sportsbooks.

Like many other states, sports bettors in West Virginia must be 21 years of age or older to make sports bets online. They do not have to be permanent residents of the state, but they must be physically located in the state at the time of making the wager.

All professional and collegiate sporting events are eligible for online sports betting in West Virginia. Bettors are provided with an extensive sports betting menu that includes straight bets as well as exotic wagers. Parlay bets and teasers are allowed. Betting lines for various sporting events are comparable with the lines offered in Vegas and other live betting locations.
